Steps of Construction: Overview of entire pipeline construction process from pre-job planning to line commissioning.
Personnel Roles and Responsibilities 1: Overview of everyone involved in the construction process. Example: Gas Company, Contractor, Third Party companies, and more. Overview of positions in pipeline and utility construction. Ex: Foreman, Operator, Welder, Pipeline Construction Worker, Laborer, Office Worker, and more.
Personnel Roles and Responsibilities 2: Overview of the role of the Inspection Company and Inspector duties.
Personnel Roles and Responsibilities 3: Overview of Third Party companies. Ex: Landman, Survey, NDE, Environmental, and more.
Pipeline Terminology: Review of technical and slang definitions used in pipeline construction.
Standards and Regulatory Agencies 1: Understanding what Standards and Codes are and how they are used in pipeline construction. Review of organizations ASME, API, PHMSA and FERC.
Standards and Regulatory Agencies 2: Review of organizations OSHA, ASTM, AWS and understanding the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR’s).
Standards and Regulatory Agencies 3: Review of coating standards organizations NACE and SSPC.
About the Pipe 1: Review of steel pipe involved in pipeline construction. Ex: Pipe Schedule, Pipe Grade, Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID), Wall Thickness, and more.
About the Pipe 2: Review of coating applied at the factory. Ex: Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) and Abrasion Resistant Overlay (ARO) and how to read the numbers printed on the pipe.
About the Pipe 3: Review of fittings, valves, and appurtenances used on the pipeline. Ex: Elbows, Tees, Flanges, Valves, Reducers, Olet’s and more.
About the Pipe 4: Review of a Material Traceability Report (MTR).
Corrosion: Review of corrosion basics, different types of corrosion and their causes, and methods used to combat corrosion.
Products Transported in Pipelines: Understanding the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) and Upper Explosive Limit (UEL) of products transported by pipelines.
Safety 1: Safety basics and review of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Safety 2: How to read and understand a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Safety 3: Safe practices working on the Right of Way (ROW). Ex: Working in bellholes and trench boxes, working around heavy equipment, and more.
Safety 4: Review of the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) document and tailgate meeting.
Review and Final Test: A 50 question test on what you have learned in Module 1.
